Radar at Ottawa’s airport has failed six times over the past fifteen months according to the Ottawa Citizen.
While the cause of the failures cannot be determined, experts say the incidents did not compromise safety.
The secondary surveillance radar is a navigational aide used by controllers for take-offs and landings. Planes already in the air are directed by Nav Canada’s air control centre in Montreal.
The most recent incident took place March 24 early in the morning. Controllers delay flights from landing or taking off until the radar is restored.
