The inaugural Ottawa Slut Walk was held Sunday, April 10th.
Participants met at the Women’s monument for letter-writing and speeches then marched to Ottawa Police Headquarters and left a Toolbox filled with letters which will serve as tools for the Police to better help and serve women.
The Ottawa walk follows the Toronto event on April 3rd that saw thousands flock to the street to participate.
The walks have been organized in response to remarks made by a Toronto Police Officer that women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.
The aim of the walk is to bring awareness to the fact nobody should be ashamed of their sexuality and address how the police, courts and the media deal with sexual violence.
There are also rallies scheduled this year throughout Canada, the United States and and New Zealand.
