Call for ban on patio smoking

The Ottawa Council on Smoking and Health is calling for the city to apply the brakes to any further patios at restaurants and bars until smoking is banned on them and a by-law is introduced to enforce it.
The council’s Suzanne Friedlaender says it’s about protecting workers.
“There’s no safe level of exposure to second-hand smoke,” she said.
Vancouver, Victoria, Saskatoon and Kingston all have smoking bans on their patios.
