Pit bull attack leaves 11-year-old boy stunned

An 11-year-old Ottawa boy is in shock after watching a pitbull rip his three-year-old Shih Tzu’s throat while he held onto the leash, Wednesday afternoon and now the owner of the pitbull is facing fines.
Jesse Lorange was walking his dog as he usually does after school when he crossed paths with a woman who was walking three dogs including the pitbull.
The attack occurred in front of an apartment complex at 3360 Paul Anka Drive at around 5:30 p.m.
Jesse’s father, Patrick, tells the Ottawa Sun that his son is devastated, but wasn’t hurt.
He says Jesse walks the dog every day after school – same time, same place – and has never had a problem before.
Under an Ontario’s pitbull ban implemented in 2005, owners must keep their pitbulls leashed and muzzled while in public. The dog in question, Tyrus, was not muzzled.
The owner of the dog is facing fines of $610 and Ottawa by-law will be asking the court to have the pitbull destroyed. The woman who was walking the dog at the time may also be fined as well.
