Ottawa cop must resign or be fired

A police watchdog organization has upheld a ruling that an Ottawa cop found guilty of tipping off gangsters must resign or be fired.

Constable Harinderpal Mamak was accused of providing criminals with licence plate numbers of undercover police cruisers.

He was found guilty of breach of confidence in 2009 and last year appealed a hearing officer’s decision that he must resign within seven days or be fired.

Friday the Ontario Civilian Police Commission upheld the decision.

But Mamak, who’s been suspended with pay since 2007, can still appeal the ruling with the Ontario Divisional Court.
