Advance polls concern Bishops

The polls being run on the Holiest days of the Christian calendar has raised concerns with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Bishop Pierre Morissette says a number of Catholics who are elections Canada staff and volunteers were concerned about being required to prepare for staff polling stations on those days.

However the Chief electoral Officer of Canada Mac Mayrand says he doesn’t determine the dates for advance polls, rather that they flow from legislative requirements.

“Elections Canada recognizes that many voters will find the advance polling dates inappropriate or inconvenient and fully understand their concerns, ” explains Mayrand

He adds it is important that electors choose the voting option that best suits their individual circumstances.
