West-end Fire kills one man and injures others

A 62-year-old man is dead after a fire in the city’s west end.
The Ottawa Fire Department was called by a passerby who was trying to inform the people living inside.
On arrival the owner’s son was at the front of the house and advised crews that his father was still inside, firefighters rushed to the second level and rescued the man.
Ottawa Fire’s Marc messier tells 1310News, that when firefighters arrived they found a 21-year-old man on the front lawn who said his father was still inside on the second floor.
” His vital signs were absent and we performed C-P-R, then paramedics treated and transported him to hospital, unfortunately has since passed away,” explains Messier.
The mans identity has yet to be released.
The owners girlfriend was forced to jump from a second floor window, breaking her ankle and suffering other injuries while an 11 year old girl escaped injury who lived in a basement suite escaped uninjured.
Crews are working with the arson unit, however the fire isn’t deemed suspicious. The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined, Ottawa Fire officials report that it started in the rear of the house.
