VERNON (NEWS1130) – Forget Predator Ridge, just call it Canucks Ridge. The Okanagan Golf Resort is showing solidarity for the home team after a local radio station started a petition.
Kevin Lim with SUN FM says they came up with the idea after hearing Boston Pizza in Montreal changed their name to Montreal Pizza.
“Within 24 hours we got several hundred signatures, so we called them up this morning and they are going for it.”
Ingrid Dilschneider with Predator Ridge says they are now in the process of changing their signs and logos. “We got our key people wearing Canucks jerseys. We’re going to be doing a nice Canucks logo on the 18th fairway.”
The changes will stay in place as long as Vancouver plays Nashville.
The Abbott connection
There is one person who will be on the edge of his seat as the Canucks take on the Predators during round two of the playoffs.
BC Education Minister George Abbott used to coach Nashville’s Cody Franson and Shea Weber in Sicamous, where the two played minor hockey.
“Cody and Shea have certainly risen to the top and everyone in Sicamous is excited, gratified and honoured to see Shea nominated for the Norris Trophy. And everyone was very amazed by what he did at the Olympics as well,” says Abbott.
UFC or Canucks?
It’s going to be a tough decision for sports fans and some bars, which will be forced to decide between the UFC fight and the Canucks game.
Graeme Kingston at Fairview Pub says it comes down to money. “We’ve got UFC with Georges St. Pierre, who is the Canadian big hope. And with UFC, we as a bar, have to pre-pay… we pay for that. And this bar alone, based on seating, is paying over $1000. So, we’ve already paid that.”
The pub will show the UFC bout and go back and forth between the Canucks game.
