Hundreds of water-weary residents reserve for rain barrel sale

Three hundred rain barrels rolled out of the Riverview and Fallowfield Park and Ride lots, Saturday, nearly tripling last year’s sales.

Nearly two weeks after the city implemented an outdoor water ban, the city has been trying to get rain barrels to residents effected by the ban.

Saturday’s rain barrel sale at Riverview Park-and-Ride and Fallowfield Station saw a huge turnout.

“More are on the way, and we’ll do more opportunities, like this so that if people didn’t get an opportunity today, we are working to get barrels to everyone,” explains Gloucester South Nepean councillor Steve Deroches.

Along with the High School volunteers from the Kanata St.Anne Catholic High School, was Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson.

He encourages residents outside of the watering ban to use rain barrels, as they will too receive the $50 rebate.

More rain barrel sales are planned — the next is scheduled for May 21.

Residents looking to purchase a rain barrel can do so at www.rainbarrel.ca.
