Long weekend winds to a close in the capital

Locals and tourists alike filled the Byward Market, trying to wring the last drop of enjoyment out of the long weekend.

As the clouds over the market parted, patios filled with people enjoying food and drinks.

The farmer’s market was elbow to elbow with people shopping for fresh produce.  Kiosk owners said business has nearly doubled thanks to the long weekend, Tulip Festival and warm weather.

David and his family are from St. Catherines.  His wife and two children are seeing the nation’s capital for the first time this long weekend.

“We’ve spent everyday here down at Byward Market it was really nice we had great weather. Its hot but the kids held up really well and there’s so much to do. Today we’re leaving and they really don’t want to go,” said David.

The Victoria Day festivities wrap up with a special fireworks display at Queen Juliana Park, at the corner of Carling and Preston.  The show begins just after 10 p.m.
