CHEO telethon underway

Kids at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario get to have their fifteen minutes of fame this weekend during the 28th annual CHEO telethon.
Last year the event raised a record 6.2 million dollars, and this year the organization hopes to rech a target closer to 7 million.
One of the major players in the behind the scenes effort of the event, was a group of high school students from around the city.
Late into Saturday night and early Sunday morning the group stepped away from the party and sacraficed some serious sleeping time to answer phones and encourage pledges.
Many of the students do have some kind of tie to the event, either having known of a family or friend in CHEO, or having a personal experience at the hospital themselves.
Grade 11 student Kathryn is hoping to start a movement to encourage more highschool students to contribute to the cause.
“Whatever we can contribute is marvelous. If we have our health, and we are able we can make the change to get those kids out of there, or at least make them more comfortable.”
Over the past 28 years the event has raised just over 78 million dollars for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.
