Fire in Ottawa’s west end damages two homes

No injuries after a fire in Ottawa’s west end.
Ottawa Fire crews responded to a house fire at 168 Grassy Planes in Kanata after receiving several 911 calls. Crews arrived on scene to find the home fully involved.
Marc Messier with Ottawa Fire says there were early reports of an explosion but they found no indication that an explosion occurred.
The roof of another home also caught fire. The siding melted off at 166 Grassy Pines, home of former Ottawa Senator Shaun Van Allen.
Both families were home when the blaze broke out but everyone escaped unharmed.
Paramedics responded to the scene to attend to an eighty-five-year-old female on dialysis. She receives treatment in one of the homes.
She was stabilized at a neighbor’s house before being transported to hospital to continue with her required treatment. She was in serious but stable condition at the time she arrived at hospital.
Grassy Pines is closed between Stonehaven Drive and Farmfield Crescent.
