Various union members plan to hold a rally Wednesday in Toronto in support of the locked out postal workers.
The protest comes after the head of one of Canada’s largest public sector unions said the Harper government is spoiling for a fight with labour.
John Gordon of the Public Sector Alliance of Canada said the move to table back-to-work bills is setting off alarms in union shops across Canada.
He warned that if the government is pushing for a major battle, it is heading in the right direction.
Government House Leader Peter Van Loan says they hope to have the bill forcing postal workers back to work dealt with this week so mail delivery can resume next week.
The government has said it hopes the threat of legislation compels Canada Post and its urban workers to reach their own agreement.
