Deadly hit-and-run in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A 30-year-old woman is dead after a hit-and-run on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside early this morning. Witnesses tell police they saw a car hit a pedestrian near the intersection of East Hastings and Jackson Avenue.
Vancouver Police Constable Jana McGuinness tells News1130 the driver initially stopped, but took off before anyone could identify him.
“We’re appealing for the driver to come forward. This is a tragedy, you know, decisions were made at the time but the right thing to do is to come forward and talk to police.”
Vancouver has recorded 11 traffic fatalities this year and four in just the past week. “[And] Really tragically three members of one family died on Granville Street on Monday. In past years we’ve seen quite a decline in fatalities, but it just seems this week we’ve been hit with so many.”
“Each case is so different and we have to look at, in the most recent fatalities, what led up to these fatal collisions? Typically, at this time of year with the good weather, with brighter days come higher speeds, people do need to slow down and watch ahead,” adds McGuinness.
The driver is described as a white man, between 25 and 35-years-old with dirty blond hair. A woman, believed to be about the same age was also in the car.
Vancouver Police are also looking for the car, which is a black 2010 Lexus convertible with damage to the front end. They don’t have the license plate number yet.

Teen seriously injured in Delta hit-and-run
Police are looking for a dark blue car that was involved in a hit-and-run in Delta Friday night.
A 17-year-old girl is in hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries after being hit at 117 St. and 72 Ave.
The driver took off and continued into Surrey. Investigators say the car will have damage to the front of the passenger side.
