Vlad Precup sentenced in hit and run case

The man who struck and killed a homeless man in the ByWard Market in 2008 will go to jail for two years less a day.
Vlad-Nicholei Precup was charged in May with dangerous driving causing death and failure to remain at the scene after hitting Mitchell Anderson with his car, killing him.
This was the sentence sought by Precup’s defense and lawyer Paolo Giancaterino said he was pleased with the term and grateful the judge recommended that Precup serve his time at a psychiatric care facility.
Precup suffers from schizophrenia and anger management issues and as part of his sentence will face a three year parole in which he must take all medications and continue treatment.
He is also banned from driving for three years following his release.
Before the sentencing was read Precup addressed court saying, “I feel bad for what happened and I feel bad for Mr. Anderson’s family and my family. I will let you know I never wanted this to happen.”
He also apologized for evading police after the incident, saying he panicked.
Precup’s family and friends were gathered to support him, holding hands and wiping away tears as the sentence was read.
The judge made a reference to this support group, telling Precup he was a young man and this was a perfect opportunity to get help and turn his life around.
