The British government is continuing its fight against childhood obesity.
In a new campaign, the government issued guidelines saying that children under the age of five, including those who can’t yet walk, should exercise everyday.
Tanya Lalonde Desjardins, owner of Gymboree, a play and music centre in Orleans that focuses on keeping babies and young children active, says it’s never to early to start a baby exercise program.
“Even a three month old doing simple activities like playing with a scarf or lifting a ball is helping with their development,” she says. “It’s also getting their heartbeat higher.”
She says often times first parents think their babies are too young.
“It’s never too early to teach them that it is important to exercise,” she says. “It’s important to have fun, but there should be a good balance.”
Officials say babies should stay physically active for about three hours a day.
