Just before 11 pm Sunday Ottawa Fire and Police were called to a working fire at the Rideau Bakery on Bank St.
Fire fighters arrived within four minutes and called in a second alarm to protect the surrounding buildings.
The fire was contained to the oven of the bakery and firefighters were able to shut off the gas and bring the fire under control quickly. They then checked the building for any spread of the blaze.
The building was vented, where were no injuries and the cause is being investigated.
A damage estimate has yet to be released but smoke damage is expected to be extensive.
Ottawa Fire’s Marc Messier told 1310News the fire started in the Deli’s deep fryer and store staff were able to put the fire out before the fire fighters arrived.
There were no injuries.
The fire caused $200,000 in produce damage and $10,000 in equipment damage.
