Man drowns in Pakenham

A man died in Pakenham Sunday after he slipped and drowned in fast moving water Sunday afternoon.
Lanark O.P.P. were called to the scene near the Kinburn side road around 1:15 p.m.
Sgt Kristine Rae tells 1310News the 53-year-old was trying to recover his shoes, which had fallen into the Mississippi River, when he slipped into the the water.
O.P.P. say next of kin have been notified but an autopsy will be needed to confirm the man died by drowning.
The body was recovered around 3 in the afternoon.
Meantime a two-year-old boy was saved, after nearly drowning in a Stittsville pool.
The two-year-old boy had been missing for almost five minutes and paramedics say when the parents found the child, he was blue.
However, after the parents performed CPR he started breathing again.
It was a dangerous weekend on the water.
A 10-year old boy in Etobicoke was rushed to hospital Sunday afternoon after nearly drowning in a high school pool.
In New Brunswick, a 17-month-old boy drowned in a family pool. Rescue crews were unable to revive the child.
This as the Ottawa Police launched drowning prevention week —reminding residents to swim with a buddy and for parents to always stay within arms’ reach of their children.
