An eight-year-old boy is dead after a float plane carrying him and his family crashed into a river in central Quebec.
Monday’s crash also injured the pilot, the boy’s parents and his 10-year-old-sister.
The girl’s injuries were so severe she had to be taken to a distant hospital in Trois-Rivieres.
The family was on vacation from Europe, although it’s not immediately known where in Europe the family is from.
The Cessna plane crashed into the Bostonnais River, in the northern part of the Mauricie region, about 130 kilometres northwest of Quebec City.
Rescue workers arrived in Zodiacs to comb through the wreckage, where area resident Jean-Paul Muir successfully worked to revive the little girl.
The plane belongs to Air Tamarac, a La Tuque company specializing in tourism excursions.
The company declined to comment on the crash, but did say its 22-year-old pilot was very experienced.
