American Jet makes emergency landing after engine fire

A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration in the United States says an American Airlines jet made an emergency landing in Dallas shortly after takeoff when one of its engines and its landing gear caught fire.

FAA spokesman Roland Herwig told the Dallas Morning News the plane landed safely on a runway around 8 p.m. CDT (0100 GMT) after dumping its fuel in midair. The Boeing 777 was bound for Brazil before making a U-turn back to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

The FAA hasn’t determined what caused the fire.
