All Valuables Removed campaign launch Tuesday

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Police Services are taking action against the growing number of thefts from vehicles.
The “All Valuables Removed” campaign was launch Tuesday morning in the Byward Market.
It’s aimed at raising awareness and combating theft through the use of bright yellow warning cards.
“It’s a tool to remind you to remove all valuables from your vehicle,” says Sgt. Denis Hull.
With the help of volunteers the Ottawa Police will be handing out about 5,000 cards throughout the city.
When placed on the dashboard the cards have a duel purpose: to deter would-be-thieves and remind others to take the same precautions.
“They’ll say what’s that on the other person’s dashboard,” says Hull. “They’ll read it, all valuables removed, and think oh what a great idea maybe I should remove all my valuables too.”
Ottawa is only the second city in Canada to implement the program, but it has already seen success in Edmonton.
