OPP launches “move over” blitz

If you spot parked emergency vehicles on the side of the highway starting today, you’re being told to ”move over.”

That’s the main message for drivers during a safety blitz about the legislation that came into effect in 2003.  It requires drivers to slow down and move away, a full lane if possible, from parked emergency vehicles.

Ontario Safety League President Brian Patterson says it’s totally unecessary some police officers have been killed in these kind of traffic incidents.

Fines for not moving over range from $400 to $2000, three demerit points, and a possible license suspension.  The OPP will be out educating motorists about the law for the next week.
