All forest fire evacuees could be home by today

If all goes as planned, the remaining evacuees forced from their communities by forest fires in northwestern Ontario could be home today.

Smiths Falls had been hosting the 640 northern fire evacuees in the former Rideau Regional Centre.

One third of the evacuees left from the Ottawa airport on monday, another third left yesterday, and the final group of about 150 will leave today.

There are concerns however that with 140 active fires, including 20 new ones, they could be forced to evacuate for a second time.
