Quiet August without Super Ex

A long-standing Ottawa attraction is no more.
It’s the first year there is no Super Ex in Ottawa.
The Central Canada Exhibition has been held at Lansdowne Park every year since its inception in 1888, except for during the two world wars.
Now, the grounds will be quiet. There will not be any whirring rides or flashing lights, no cotton candy or bearded ladies– and many Ottawans tell 1310News, they like it that way.
“I’m thrilled that it’s not here,” says one woman. “I hate the Ex. I live across the canal. It’s noisy, too many people in your neighbourhood, too much garbage. I’m thrilled that it’s gone.”
Others say there’s not much to miss.
“I never went there to begin with, so I didn’t notice [it was gone],” a man says.”
“I never really caught on to it,” says another man. “I went once or twice, but I just wasn’t impressed with it.”
Others say they’re sad to see it go.
“We miss it, just seeing all the rides and all the people,” says a woman. “It brought a lot of people together.”
“We miss the Super Ex because it’s a great way to bring people together in Ottawa,” says a man on a bike.
Another woman adds, “It’s an event over the summer that’s kind of part of Ottawa.”
