For many capital residents, the Indiana stage collapse is a reminder of what happened at Bluesfest just a month ago.
Many residents like Gerry said they had flash back to Bluesfest when they turned on the news this morning.
Gerry tells 1310News she thinks outdoor venues like these need to have better warning systems. But ultimately she said festival organizers aren’t to blame for these stage collapses.
“Sometimes you can’t put the blame on something, it’s just a freak accident! And I think that’s what happened here in Ottawa,” she said.
Some capital residents said the summer stage collapses are a sign that festivals need to fix their safety procedures.
Most music lovers like J.P. said the stage collapse is not going to change their festival plans.
“Absolutely not! It’s not going to change a bit,” he said.
“I’m still going to go to my shows, I’m just not going to sit close to the stage,” he said with a chuckle.
Others like John said maybe things would be better if festivals were held at existing venues, with permanent stages.
“Then they don’t have to worry because it’s a permanent one. It’s not set up, take down, miss a bolt and it falls apart,” he said.
Most people said they’re going to continue attending festivals, but they might check the weather forecast before leaving the house.
