Father from Alexandria fire is undergoing surgery

The father who survived the fatal house fire in Alexandria last Friday is undergoing surgery Wednesday at a Toronto hospital.

Martin Desjardins, is still in a medically induced coma and according to Postmedia he has burns to 11% of his body.

Martin’s wife, their three-year-old daughter Chloe and nine-month-old son Jacob all died in the fire. He managed to pull his 22-month-old son Maxime from the blaze but the toddler died in CHEO on Monday.

The fire started on the porch blocking the only exit from the home and the smoke alarm on the second floor didn’t have a battery in it.

On Thursday a wake is being held in Alexandria for the mother and her three children. Their funerals will be held on Friday morning.
