Ottawa’s first Asian-style night market opens

An Asian-style night market has just opened in Ottawa.
The night market on Empress Avenue just opened on Friday but it has already been very popular.
Organizers Kenny and Grace Chau said the market was crammed with over three thousand people on the opening night.
They said it was so crowded that vendors actually ran out of food.
“From six to nine all the food was sold out,” said Grace Chau. “There were so many people.”
Chau said she was pleased so see the turnout and hopes the night market will make Ottawa even more multicultural.
“A night market is originally it was come from South Asia,” she said. “It brings out the spirit and the livelihood of the community. And this is something that Ottawa is missing!”
The market features food such as meatballs, pad thai and even baklava.
There will be performances from dance groups, a raffle draw and a movie screening of “Fast Five,” on Saturday night.
The market closes at 1 a.m.
