Rogers turns to banking

Rogers Communications is expanding beyond cell phones, cable, internet, radio and television.

The telecommunications giant now wants to offer you a banking service.

The company has applied with the federal government to open up Rogers Bank, which needs approval from the finance minister before it can proceed any further.

The bank would be headquartered in Toronto and focus on credit, payment and charge card services.

Rogers is the parent company of 1310News.
