Capital Remembers 9/11 Terrorist Attacks

The city is hosting a number of events to honour the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

The NAC orchestra will play a “concert of hope and remembrance,” on Sunday at 8:46. There will also be a Sunday memorial for fallen firefighters at 11:00 on Parliament Hill.

Many capital residents said they would like to see even more public events.

Suzanne said she’d like to see a place for everyone to have a minute of silence together.

“I think certainly think a place like a cenotaph or a city hall might be appropriate,” she said.”That’s a good gathering place to remember everyone.”

Deb said she’d like to see a designated place for people who lost family and friends during the 9/11 attacks.

“If they had a place that they can go just to grieve and remember,” said Deb. “I don’t think it has to be a huge, huge place. I think just somewhere that is quiet, some place that they can go that’s local.”

The city is also hosting a photo exhibit titled, “Thank you Canada,” which features photos of Canada’s response to the United States after 9/11.

Ohio visitors Jim and Mary Anne said it’s nice to see the photo exhibit outside the American embassy.

“We’re so glad for Canada’s help and all that they have done to help the United States,” said Mary  Anne.

Many residents said they will be attending the public memorials on Sunday.
