College support workers march, rally downtown

TORONTO, Ont. – Hundreds of striking Ontario college support workers held a march and rally downtown, Tuesday morning, demanding better pay and job protection.

Some of the workers who took part came from 10 community colleges in the Kingston, Kitchener, Windsor and the Niagara area.

They marched from George Brown College on King Street, headed to the management head office on Bay Street for an outdoor rally and then back up to the college.

About 8,000 support workers at the province’s 24 colleges have been on strike since Sept. 1.

The workers are members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and include cleaners, food service staff and registration officers.
