Air Canada flight attendants serve strike notice

TORONTO – Air Canada’s flight attendants could go on strike as early as Wednesday. Their union has officially served strike notice to a federal mediator.
Jeff Taylor, president of the Air Canada Component of CUPE said that although the notice has been served, negotiations will continue and they are still hoping to come to an agreement.
Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick said there is still lots of time to reach an agreement.
Fitzpatrick said the airline is working on a contingency plan. “We are planning to operate a partial schedule and the details of that will be divulged at the appropriate time.”
Federal Labour Minister Lisa Raitt said she will call both sides to a meeting in Ottawa if no deal is reached by this weekend.
Flight attendants have been without a contract since March 31, 2011. On September 13, flight attendants voted 98 per cent in favour of a strike mandate.
