Talks are resuming this weekend between the two sides in the college support staff strike. The colleges say they are hoping renewed talks will lead to a settlement in the walkout that started September 1.
These will be the first talks since the strike began.
OPSEU represents about 8000 cleaners, food service staff, registration officers, and other workers at the province’s 24 community colleges.
Local 416 president Jan Strickland tells 1310News she’s optimistic about the talks.
“Now that they are going back, I’m sure they will start with the latest proposal that the bargaining team put out and I’m certainly hoping that they’ll be able to reach a deal for us,” she said.
The colleges have vowed to remain open during the strike, using management and non-unionized, part-time staff.
