Plane Pull takes over the Ottawa Airport

The 6th annual Plane Pull took over the tarmac at the Ottawa International Airport Saturday afternoon with teams of 20 people literally pulling a plane down a runway all in the name of charity,  supporting the Sens Foundation and Project Clear the Skies.

The goal is to complete the 12 foot pull in record time and the RCMP team set the bar high with a speedy 4.3 second pull on the very first run.

1310News asked some competitors what possesses them to grab a rope and pull a plane.

“It sounds challenging, for sure,” said Ian.

“It’s a man thing,” said Jamie, admitting that women are great competitors to but adding they at least think beforehand about what they’re getting themselves into.

For Aimee pulling a plane is about supporting her company and the cause.

Sens Foundation spokesman Brian Weir said they were honoured to be invited as the charity for the second year in a row.

“It’s a great day for families and that’s really what the Sens Foundation is all about, so, helping kids and it’s a great day for that,” said Weir.

The event really is a family affair with two bouncy Spartacats, cotton candy and vintage planes on display as well as magic shows and a mini-plane pull for younger kids.
