Feds threaten to pull RCMP from BC: Solicitor General

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s Solicitor General says the federal government is giving her until the end of November to sign a new contract with the RCMP.
She says if they don’t, Ottawa has indicated it might pull RCMP services out of BC by 2014.
She says talks have now broken down but she does not want to engage in brinksmanship.
“Our goal remains to have an RCMP contract in British Columbia,” says Bond. “Is it important that the federal government actually respond and spend some time at the negotiating table talking about those outstanding issues? Absolutely.”
Speaking to local mayors and politicians at the Union of BC Municipalities Convention, Bond says BC sent a proposal to the federal government during the summer outlining some of their concerns with the deal Alberta and Saskatchewan inked with Ottawa.
However, she says Ottawa simply indicated BC needed to sign it by the end of November.
Bond says BC still has big concerns about who will pay what for policing in BC.
