Nobel laureate endorses Ottawa Centre candidate

A Nobel Peace Prize Laureate has thrown his support behind an Ottawa candidate in the provincial election.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his anti-apartheid work in 1984, is backing Ottawa Centre NDP candidate Anil Naidoo.
Naidoo told 1310News it is an honour to be endorsed by tutu.
“I think that having someone with that profile is very humbling for me,” he said. “I am very honoured that he has done this and I think that at the end of the day it does speak to what I hope to bring to the community.”
In a letter written from his home in South Africa, Tutu wrote “Anil Naidoo has been an advocate for the human right to water, the rights of nature and progressive environmental causes. I share these values and support Mr. Naidoo so that he can continue this important work as an elected representative.”
Naidoo is running against Liberal incumbent Yasir Naqvi, Progressive Conservative Rob Dekker, and the Green Party’s Kevin O’Donnell.
