No strike for Air Canada

MONTREAL –  The union representing Air Canada flight attendants has formally called off a strike that was set to begin just after midnight.

The decision comes after Labour Minister Lisa Raitt referred the dispute to the Canada Industrial Relations Board.

Raitt has asked the board to consider whether Air Canada flight attendants should be considered essential workers and prevented from striking.

The board says any job action is suspended until its review is complete.
