ARMSTRONG (NEWS1130) – All of Armstrong is feeling the pain. The town’s mayor says his community is crushed by the deaths.
The four-year-old boy and his five-year-old sister were asleep inside a motorhome near Lytton overnight when the fire broke out. Their grandma and her common-law partner were travelling with them and are still in the hospital.
Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper says the mother and the grandparents are all from his community.
“I feel terrible, as does everybody in the community. You just feel empty, I guess that’s the easiest way to say it. Both grandparents I know very well and the kids’ mom went to school with my daughter. It impacts the whole community. I mean they’ve been here a long time and they’re really good people. It’s just tragic.”
Grief counsellors have spent the day talking with students at the local schools.
