Happy Birthday to us!

On October 18, 2010 Ottawa said goodbye to Oldies 1310, and hello to the city’s first all news radio station, 1310News.

1310News is proud to have been serving the community for one year.

The executive vice president of Rogers Radio, National Capital Region and Atlantic Canada, Scott Parsons, says it means a lot to mark our first anniversary.

“I think Ottawa has inherited a great radio station, and one that is growing at leaps and bounds,” he said. “People are discovering it every single day, and it’s just getting bigger and stronger.”

He said 1310’s format has helped change the way news is reported in Ottawa.

“It’s been a win-win all the way around,” he said. “I think we’ve made the other news stations in Ottawa better because we’ve been good at what we have done, and I think we offer a different perspective. I think we offer radio that’s great in the car, we certainly offer a wonderful format that allows people to get the information they need, when they want it.”

The 1310News staff settled in to its home on Thurston drive quickly, and was welcomed by its FM stations, Y101, Chez 106 and the New 105.3 Kiss FM.

Robin Harper with Chez 106 said it’s great to have 1310News in the building.

“It’s fantastic, you guys are right here beside the Chez studios, which means we get all of our information right away–first hand, as it’s happening,” he said. “There’s no waiting, there’s no delay, looking for who’s got what information, you guys got it first, which means we have it second!”

The station manager at Y101, Doug Anderson said he was surprised how quickly this anniversary arrived.

“It doesn’t seem like a year has passed since 1310 went on the air,” said Anderson. “It’s a format that was desperately needed in the capital city.”

1310News is the only live 24 hour news radio station in Ottawa.

Thanks to you, our listeners, for a great year of radio, and for many more to come!
