Jamie Hubley’s funeral to be held Thursday

OTTAWA – He was the victim of bullying who just couldn’t take it anymore.  Fifteen-year-old Jamie Hubley’s funeral will have a distinctive look this Thursday.  Friends have been making tie-dye t-shirts to  wear at school and at his funeral.

His father,  Kanata Councillor Allan Hubley says his son was being treated at CHEO for his depression and says he was receiving counselling to help him cope with his feelings.

Hubley says  bullying was not the only reason why his son took his own life, but it was  definitely a factor.

The family is asking for donations to go to the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa.

That group has it’s inaugural fundraising event coming up at the end of this month, the Kaleidoscope of Hope Gala.

Meanwhile, The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is offering its condolences to Jamie’s family.

The board’s director of education, Jennifer Adams, says they are saddened to hear about Jamie’s tragic death and that it is important to deal with discrimination and bullying in schools.

She says while they have made tremendous progress in creating a culture of acceptance in their schools, more work must be done.
