Deliberations start in Kanata 5 case

The jury in the Kanata 5 case began deliberations today.
The accused, Sommit Luangpakham, claims he must have fallen asleep at the wheel and did not know he struck five cyclists on the morning of July 19, 2009.
He is charged with 5 counts each of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and leaving the scene of an accident.
Cathy Anderson and Robert Wein are two of the cyclists struck on that morning. They tell 1310News they are just happy the time has come for a decision.
They say they trust the jury will make the right decision based on the evidence. Either way, a decision means they can move on to the next chapter of their lives.
