The Archdiocese of Ottawa is proposing tight new rules on the way in which church money can be handled.
It has introduced a plan to improve financial accountability at its parishes.
The move comes after this year’s scandal at Blessed Sacrament Church which saw a number of questionable transactions made by Rev. Joseph Leclair.
Police continue to investigate allegations that the former pastor misappropriated church funds.
The citizen said the draft protocol was circulated to its more than 100 churches asking for feedback.
The new measures, which could include things like requiring a second signature on cheques, are expected to be finalized by the end of the year.
