Blues hand Canucks second straight road loss

ST. LOUIS, MO (NEWS1130) – David Backes had the game winner near the six-minute mark of the third period as St. Louis edged Vancouver 3-2. Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows scored for Vancouver. Burrows did not finish the game.
Burrows opened the scoring at 13:13 of the contest, but left the game in the second period and did not return. After the game, Coach Alain Vigneault said Burrows was suffering from back spasms.
Mount Vernon, Washington native TJ Oshie had a pair of goals for the Blues.
Ryan Kesler tied the game 23 seconds into the third period, as he bashed in a rebound from a Dan Hamhuis shot on the power play.
It’s the second time Blues goalie Brian Elliott has defeated the Canucks this season. He blanked the Canucks at Rogers Arena 3-0 on Oct. 26. He has five wins in six starts overall. Roberto Luongo is now 4-4-1 on the season.
The Canucks lost 5-1 in Minnesota on Thursday.
A week after winning Game 7 of the World Series at home, newly retired Manager Tony Larussa was on hand to drop the ceremonial first puck. Larussa was joined at centre ice by series MVP David Freese, and Game 7-winning pitcher Chris Carpenter. Carpenter skated with the Blues at practice on Thursday. He played high school hockey in New Hampshire and is also a Blues season ticket holder.
Vancouver visits Chicago on Sunday afternoon.
