OC Transpo is investigating after a driver allegedly threatened a mentally ill passenger Thursday. The 55-second cellphone video which has gone viral online shows the bus driver threatening and using profanity towards the passenger.
The man who filmed the incident said he started shooting because he thought a crime was about to take place.
“I honestly thought a crime was going to be committed, so I just thought I would pull out my phone and videotape this,” said the witness, who didn’t want his real name used.
Dartpak as he goes by on Youtube said the passenger was rambling and appeared to be mentally ill and tried apologizing to the driver who, in return berated the passenger.
“If you don’t shut your f–king face I’m going to stick my fist in it,” someone can be heard yelling.
The passenger riding the No. 96 bus on route from Ottawa to Kanata was ordered off the bus when it stopped at the Eagleson Park and Ride. He tried explaining to the driver he had a mental illness before apologizing and exiting the bus.
In a statement, OC Transpo chief Alain Mercier confirmed an investigation is underway and said “appropriate actions” will be taken.
Mayor Jim Watson weighed in and tweeted: “Regarding OC Transpo video — like anyone I am very disturbed by what I have seen and heard and want to see a thorough investigation conducted.”
