Stock markets sharply lower

TORONTO –  North American markets continued a steep drop today after Italy’s borrowing costs soared and political chaos in Greece.

The T-S-X closed down 332 points and the Dow was off by 389.

Italy’s costs are a sign that Europe’s debt crisis has spilled into the third-largest economy in the euro bloc.

The dollar was also sharply lower — closing down 1.31 cents u-s to 97.88.
