VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Roberto Luongo was one of several veterans to skip today’s optional team practice at Rogers Arena but he says it has nothing to do with the puck that hit him in the mask in last night’s 4-1 win over the New York Islanders. Luongo says he was given a maintenance day after playing three games in four nights.
As of late, Aaron Rome is the hottest Canuck. The gritty defenceman had a career-high three points in last night’s game and has had three goals in four games. Assistant Coach Rick Bowness calls Rome’s streak a “nice surprise.”
Meantime, struggling forward Ryan Kesler was among the veterans who did hit the ice, which might be a result of his lack of scoring in a return from summer hip surgery. Captain Henrik Sedin said today he is pleased with the Canucks’ play over the last five games and the team is really finding their own.
The Canucks are at home on Wednesday to host the Chicago Blackhawks at 7 p.m.
