Bilingual software will set the city back $116,000

The city will have to pay an extra $116,000 for software to be developed to honour mandatory bilingual rules.

All city documents have to be published in both official languages.

“That’s a necessity.  That’s not a question mark,” Coun. Tim Tierney said during a meeting.

Since there is no software available,  money had to be found to develop the software first.

There is a positive side for developing the software, it will save on printing costs.

While almost a quarter of a million dollars was earmarked for this in 2009,  the actual cost will be  just over $400,000. The extra cash was found in other existing budgets.
