Hungry fans eat up Grey Cup

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Don’t expect the usual football fare for CFL’s biggest day this weekend. There are going to be some tasty and unusual offerings at BC Place on Sunday.
A special menu has been developed for the game that showcases Vancouver’s culinary style that includes: Maple Smoked Steelhead, Indian Spiced Lamb Chops, Pork Belly Sliders and Barbeque Pork Sliders.
Executive Chef Ryan Stone says they put a lot of thought into the set up. “We wanted to do something that was a departure from what the usual stadium fare was, so we didn’t want to do anything that was even remotely close to the hotdogs and hamburgers.”
All the new and tasty treats will be only $10.
There’s no need to worry if you’re a pigskin purist. The stadium is ready with 20,000 hotdogs, 10,000 hamburgers, 17,000 litres of pop, 6,000 buckets of popcorn and perhaps most important of all 37,000 litres of beer.
“It’s challenging because you’ve got to do something that’s a little bit fine dining but can be eaten out of your lap and with a beer in one hand,” adds Stone.
Transit ready for Grey Cup crowds
Grey Cup weekend will be bringing championship-sized crowds and transit has a plan to deal with the tens of thousand of extra passengers flowing through the Lower Mainland.
If you’re looking to partake in some Grey Cup fun, TransLink suggests leaving the car at home. Drew Snider with the transit authority says they are ready to move extra fans starting Friday and lasting all weekend.
“We’ll also keep additional trains in operation for much of that time trying to clear people out, especially with so much happening downtown around the Convention Centre where there are various fan zones. As well, the SeaBus will be running at 15-minute intervals, instead of its usual 30 minutes.”
As for the roads, extra buses will be on standby just in case.
