Five arrested in Vanier prostitution sweep

Five women were arrested during a daytime prostitution sweep in Vanier Friday.

In total, police laid 14 criminal charges, including communicating for the purpose of prostitution and mischief.

Sgt Frank D’Aoust told 1310News the police conducted the sweep in response to complaints from residents in the area.

“Members of the public [have been] complaining of increased traffic, or vehicles circling around the area,” he said. “Unfortunately some individuals are approached by potential clients and being asked if they are working that day.”

He said police conduct prostitution sweeps throughout the year based on feedback from the public.
