Engine problems force airplane to return to Ottawa Airport

OTTAWA, On- An Air Canada jet carrying 93 people was forced to turn around Thursday night when it’s pilot reported an engine vibration.

The Edmonton-bound flight had just taken off from Ottawa Airport, but was welcomed back to the tarmac by five Ottawa firetrucks.

Initial reports from Ottawa Fire state the airplane suffered a bird strike. One engine was damaged. There was an odour of fuel and slight smoking, but there was no fire. Firefighters did enact their hazmat team out of precaution.

Ottawa Fire Captain Mark Asselin told 1310News all 93 people got off the aircraft safely and through the standard terminal escapes and not through emergency exits.

No one was injured.
