Capital Hoedown’s new location doesn’t please everyone

OTTAWA, On.- Capital Hoedown organizers are excited about their move to Walter Baker Park in Kanata, but not everyone is on board.

Some Ottawa area soccer officials are concerned it could affect thousands of players across the city. Three soccer fields at Walter Baker Park were closed for repair last year, and are set to re-open just weeks before the music festival.

West Ottawa Soccer Club President Brian Mason believes it to be impossible to contain fifty or sixty thousand people. The thought that there wouldn’t be damage to the field is “incredibly naive”.

Headliners Reba McIntyre, Taylor Swift and Brad Paisley are not the only big names coming to town Aug 10,11,12 2012.

“The Band Perry, who are just hot as a pistol right now, so we’re looking forward to that. Terri Clark’s coming too so the Hoedown’s going to be awesome,” said Y101’s Mark Papousek who added anyone can tune in to the fm station for ticket giveaways every Monday through Friday until Christmas.

Another big change this year is the location. With the help of Kanata South councillor Alan Hubley, the bash is moving to Walter Baker Park in Kanata.

It boasts a huge hill so people sitting way back will still be able to see over people’s heads, something Hubley said is a big perk and an improvement from the Lebreton Flats, where the Hoedown was held last year.

He said they’re already doing extra planning to make sure you won’t have to worry about getting there.

“We’re already talking to many of the local hotels and restaurants to try to set up a shuttle service similar to what we do for hockey games,” he said, adding public transit will also be increased and he said they’ll be encouraging people to use buses to get to the park.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, Nov. 26 through capitalhoedown.net. Three-day general admissions passes are $170, the three-day Crazy Horse VIP Corral Passport sells for $285 and the three-day VIP Front and Centre Passport is $445.
